Google Pixel 5a might be launched in August

-

For a long time, the Google Pixel 5a’s fate was unknown, triggering an unexpected statement from Google acknowledging its existence. There were rumors that the Pixel 5a will be launched at Google I/O, but that never happened. The most recent speculation comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who claims that the Pixel 5a will be announced and released in August.

In terms of size, form, and design, we’ve had the idea that the Pixel 5a will be very similar to the Pixel 4a 5G from its first leak. We’ve also discovered proof that the Pixel 5a will be powered by the same Snapdragon 765 CPU as the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. The Pixel 5a was briefly speculated to be scrapped entirely, a claim that Google chose to refute explicitly.

In doing so, Google acknowledged that the Pixel 5a exists and that it will be released “around the same time as last year’s a-series phone.” Given that there were two a-series phones introduced in 2020, this comment had two possible interpretations. The Pixel 5a could be released in August to coincide with the Pixel 4a, or in October to coincide with the Pixel 4a 5G.

The proximity of this release to the introduction of Android 12 and the predicted Google Pixel 6 lineup is what makes it so intriguing. We should expect to see the finished version of Android 12 sometime in September, according to the Android 12 release timeline. Meanwhile, according to the most recent set of Pixel 6 speculations, the gadget will be introduced in October. Coming out ahead of everything else would imply a busy Fall for the Google team, but the Pixel 5a could get lost in the shuffle.
