Pixel handset has always come with the preinstalled app called Personal Safety. This app provides features such as car crash detection, emergency location sharing, and local crisis alerts. The company has now come up with an update for the app which provides the new feature “Emergency SOS”.
This new feature “Emergency SOS” allows users to set up the emergency SOS to call their local emergency services hotline, share real-time position, battery life, and phone calls updates, and start a video recording that will be immediately stored up to the cloud. If the user wants the SOS to be delivered quietly, they can choose whether or not an alarm sound is played during the countdown before the emergency SOS is triggered during setup.
The app allows up to 45 minutes of video recording, with the size being about 10MB per minute of recording. The video gets automatically uploaded on the user’s Google Account and can be automatically shared with their emergency contacts if the user wants.
This update comes with Version 2021.08.27 of the Personal Safety app which is currently available for download on Google Play. This feature can be accessed by tapping on the power button 5 times in quick succession. Meanwhile, the Settings for the new emergency SOS feature can also be found under Settings > Safety & emergency on Android 12.
