The official Google Pixel 6 series launch is on the 19th of October but Carphone Warehouse (CPW are part of Currys UK) released all the information on their website 10 days early! It has now been taken down but fortunately I took screen shots.
At First glance we was treated with the tag line ‘The smartest and fastest Pixel yet’
This is referring to the device having Google’s first Custom built chip ‘Tensor’ (see my previous article on this), the Cameras and in particular it having pro level lenses and security with the P6 series having next-gen Titan M2 Security core.
The advert states the P6 series has upto 80% faster performance! Now this number is from tests on a pre-production unit and compared to the Pixel 5 which uses a Snapdragon 765G soc, so the final results could be better. I personally found the pixel 5 to be very fluid with minimal lag during my year with it so for it to be 80% faster is very promising. There’s advanced on-device AI for enhanced photos, videos, language translation and more. The advert then specifically states ‘maximum power efficiency for great battery life’ If the battery life is anything like the Pixel 5 I will be an extremely happy man (please not like my beloved Pixel 4XL I currently use).
With Tensor having the Titan M2 Security core the P6 series are even safer than previous Pixels, protecting your texts, photos, sensitive data and more. To top this off the big news is that there will be ‘at least’ 5 years of security updates! For anyone wanting to invest in a flagship device for the long haul this is fantastic and music to Pixel fans ears.
The advert confirms there’s a 50mp main lens that captures 150% more light than the main lens on the pixel 5 (which performs really well in my opinion). With tensors AI smarts paired with this hardware we should see finer detail, richer colours and night sight will be faster and much more accurate.
There is a 48mp Telephoto lens that has 4x optical zoom, paired with Super Res Zoom it gives you up to 20x zoom (personally I’m not 100% sure on 20x but confident you’ll see fantastic results at 10x which I’m more likely to use). The other 12mp ultrawide lens is shown but no mention of its performance so we shall wait and see once in hand. The front facing ‘selfie’ allows you to capture more of your surroundings/bigger group selfies with its ultrawide 94° field-of-view (the Samsung S21 Ultra has 80° for comparison). There’s also mention of better portrait images with clearer focus on faces due to having a ‘face unblur’ feature and much more authentic shots with accurate skin tones (This was something that stood out at Google io earlier this year).
‘As durable as it is beautiful’ is the tagline here, stating the P6 pro is designed for daily life with a 6.7-inch screen which is made of Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus™ which has 2x better scratch resistance to the Pixel 5. The screen is more responsive with a 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO technology which goes as low as 10Hz to save battery. There’s IP68 water and dust resistance also.
This is always Google’s strength and the P6 series won’t disappoint in this area coming with Android 12 fresh out the box with a new reimagined interface with ‘material you’ I won’t talk about that now but check out our other content on Android 12 beta program and future content on the Full release coming soon.
It’s great to see that a lot of the leaks we’ve seen and shared have rang true, I don’t know about you but seeing all this confirmed has made me even more excited for the highly anticipated Google Pixel 6 pro and I can’t wait to get my hands on one. At least it won’t be long now, could it be phone of the year for 2021? I think it could be. What are your thoughts, drop us a comment below.
