In Alphabet’s Q3 earnings call, Google announced that they will be spending more on marketing their hardware products in the next quarter. With the Pixel Fall Launch event just 24hrs away, Google has announced a major marketing partnership with the National Basketball Association, as well as the subcategory NBA G League, and NBA 2k League in a company blog post. Thus making the Google Pixel the official fan phone of the NBA.
In the post, Chief Marketing Office, Lorraine Twohill, went on to share her enthusiasm in the partnership as an avid sports fan and how this partnership fits well into their brand. For the past two NBA seasons, YouTube TV has been a proud partner of the NBA, making YouTube TV a household brand for a new way to watch television and NBA games during the pandemic. The blog post goes on to explain what Google will bring to the table stating the following: “We’ll combine the best of Google’s Search trends, information, technology, devices and services to help fans go deeper and get closer to the culture, teams and players they love.” But what does this mean?

A massive audience to recognize the Google Pixel brand
For starters, this brings a massive 1.9 million on average audience to recognize the Google Pixel brand, devices, and all of the features Pixel has to offer. Twohill continues stating, “Through this multi-year partnership, we’ll work with the NBA to create exciting immersive experiences for fans using our 3D and AR technology, as well as leverage new features that will be announced at our Pixel Fall Launch event. And we’ll continue to provide experiences and information in all the places fans turn to every day, whether that’s Pixel to take pictures of your favorite team in action, Search to check scores and schedules, Google Shopping to find your favorite player’s jersey, or Maps to get to the arena using the most sustainable route.” I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a pretty lucrative marketing partnership for both parties for years to come, starting with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
If that’s not enough, during tonight’s opening night on “NBA On TNT Tip-Off Pre-game show”, there will be some exciting new demos of the new Pixel 6 and 6 Pro camera features that I for sure won’t want to miss! You can also read the entire blog in the link below.
What do you think? Do you think this will bring more audience to the Google Pixel brand and ultimate buy a Pixel? Do you think the Lakers will win the championship this year, like I do? Let’s chat in the comments or on Twitter!
