Google I/O, the company’s annual developer conference, will be held on May 11th and 12th, the firm said on Wednesday. The conference will be entirely online once again, however it appears that at least some of it will be aired live from the Shoreline Amphitheatre, a popular Google I/O venue.

In a statement to The Verge, Google spokesman Alex Garcia-Kummert said, “This year’s event will be streamed in front of a small live audience, and is fully free and open to everyone digitally.” According to a Google statement provided with Axios’ Ina Fried, the limited audience would mostly consist of Google employees and a few partners.
According to a FAQ, registration will be free and will begin later this month. There will be no tickets available for purchase.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Google I/O was canceled, but it was resurrected as an online event in 2021. Last year’s event saw the firm make a number of important announcements, including the introduction of Android 12’s “Material You” design, upgrades to Google Workspace, and the revelation that Google’s Wear OS and Samsung’s Tizen will be merged into one platform (now known as Wear OS 3).

We don’t know what’s coming this year, but given that Google has already released the first preview of Android 13, it’s probable that the operating system will be one of the highlights.
