After a long wait, Samsung has begun the OneUI 5 Beta 2 rollout in India, making India the first country to receive the Beta 2 update. Compared to what we saw in Beta 1, there are a lot of changes made by Samsung.
For context, the OneUI 5 Beta 2 is right now available for the Galaxy S22 series in India, which comes with Android 13 onboard, and some good amount of changes as well.
PS: I will refer to OneUI 5 Beta 2 as Beta 2 from now on.
Let’s see what’s new!
Improvised Color Palette.
With Beta 2, Samsung has improvised the Color Palette, according to Google’s Implementation. Now Instead of 4 basic color palettes, you get 12 palettes, along with a new option, called Basic Colors 8 basic colors from the wallpapers, along with 4 2-color combinations as well. Not only this, but the Color Palettes can also work far better in Dark Mode, than what we have seen in the Android 12 iteration (last image).
With Beta 2, Samsung has added a Stacked Wiget, which lets you stack multiple widgets of same size, reducing the clutter in homepage.
Multi-Window has improved.
With the Beta 2 Update, it’s very easy to create a Multi-Window setup. You can have a watch here.
New additions to Labs.
Here you can see that there are two new Labs features. The two new features focus on One-hand functionality.
Google Apps now supports Material You in OneUI; the Colors of Icons changed.
With the new Beta 2, Google Apps, and many other third-party apps are now using Material You. I can only see WhatsApp using the Material You-based icons along with LinkedIn. On the other hand, Samsung’s own app icons have got a new light gradient style with depth icons as well.
Notifications get more subtle.
Thanks to Google’s new Notification Panel redesign, Samsung is also implementing the same in Beta 2, bringing in more clean notifications with bigger icons for the apps. The only thing missing right now is the Squiggly music slider with an Album background in the Music Widget. This may be a Spotify thing right now, but Youtube Music doesn’t show the same right now.
Addition of Over the Horizon by SUGA of BTS.
Not much of an interesting heading, but Samsung has added the Over the Horizon by SUGA of BTS version in the OS.
Changes to the Caller Screen and Popup.
With Beta 2, Samsung has made some changes to the Caller Screen and Popup. The Caller Screen now has colorful gradients.
Samsung has been finding working with Animations a bit difficult starting Android 11, but now it seems they have improved considerably.
Watermark in Camera.
The Galaxy S22 now has the Watermark feature inside the camera app with the Beta 2 update.
There are many underlying changes and fixes done by Samsung. You can go with the updated Changelog below. The writer of the log forgot to close some tags in HTML.
As for the update, the download size is ~3GB so it’s better to switch to a WiFi connection for the download.
More Beta Updates to come in future.
